Zikode murdered her and then had sex with her corpse
Having suffered the privations of apartheid for 42 years, South Africa had been through a tumultuous time. Just as the country seemed to be settling down, a serial killer began operating in Donnybrook, a town in rural Kwazulu-Natal, the seventh largest region in South Africa. Beginning in 1993, Christopher Mhlengwa Zikode, the Donnybrook Serial Killer, began his murderous campaign that left 18 dead over a period of two years. Zikode also attempted to murder another 11 people.
All his victims were aged between 20 and 30. He would select a victim and then break down their front door, shooting the man of the house in the head. He would then drag the woman to a nearby wood where he repeatedly raped her. The ordeal could last as long as five hours before he murdered her.
If the woman resisted, Zikode murdered her and then had sex with her corpse. If the fancy took him, he would attack women as they went for a stroll. Remarkably, Zikode was just 21 years old when he was arrested in July 1995 for attempted murder. However, the police bailed him and he went on to commit five more crimes — two attempted murders and three burglaries with intent to rape and murder — before he was arrested again on 29 September 1995.

On 7 January 1997 a High Court judge sentenced Zikode to 140 years in prison, including five life sentences.
